ABOUT US
Flowers In Flight. We are a family owned business that began in the spring of 1984 as the original flower cart on Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Oregon. For the first 20 years of operation, the 3 founding sisters worked to elate and educate clients and recipients alike with the beauty of fresh flowers. The popularity of the cart on the Square led to another in the Portland Building and then a small shop at the Skidmore Fountain Building . In 1988 we consolidated all operations in our present location inside the historic George Lawrence Building at SW First and Oak in downtown Portland. The defining elements of “flowers in flight” floral art remain simplicity, elegance and the unique qualities of locally grown flora. We are now in our 27th year and have for the past 6 years been owned and operated by 2 of the original 3 sisters: Mary Anne Huseby, floral artist extraordinaire and Pat Hutchins, plant lady and watercolor artist. Cheri Huseby-Jones moved with her husband to Washington state where she pursues her other passion–public education.
ABOUT OUR WORK
From the outset, we have focused on and promoted locally produced flowers, plants, pottery and glass. Recently, we have decided to focus on containers that are recycled in addition to the case packs we buy for event work. We are not new to the local and sustainable mantra that we are so delighted to see taking root now. In addition to shopping with our fellow Portland area growers, we produce our enclosure and greeting cards from Pat’s original water color paintings. These cards are reproduced using environmentally sensitive papers and inks in small family owned print shops in Portland. You will find the card images on our website where you may choose to buy them or select one in the enclosure size to accompany your floral art order. The design work of Flowers In Flight is unmistakable. Mary Anne’s color sense and amazing touch with balancing various flowers, greens, berries, pods and other natural elements keeps our work in a class by itself. Honestly, in a room full of floral arrangements, the presentations of Flowers In Flight are always easily identified as outstanding. From the single stem on your kitchen window sill that you designed from a stem you bought at Happy Hours For Flowers (our half price sale that happens every Friday between 3 and 6p.m.) to the wedding or special celebration of your dreams, Flowers In Flight offers you the finest assortment of fresh local flora in this city. Numerous area architects, attorneys, advertising agencies, medical/dental offices, and salons avail themselves of our weekly arrangement services. With this decor option, a fresh piece of floral art arrives at your destination each Monday morning. The delivery will be different from anything you have received recently and will be designed in one of our unique vessels. When the new flowers arrive, we pick up the vase from the previous week. You do not pay for the container, so the presentation is always amazing, tailored to your environment and quite affordable.
